Welcome to My Information Just Under Glass - Network (MIJUG.NET), where technology meets community, and knowledge flows freely through the digital looking glass.

The difference between “info” and “information” lies in their usage and context. “Info” is a casual abbreviation of “information” and is often used in informal communication, such as text messages or emails. It implies brevity and quick reference, suitable for informal exchanges. In contrast, “information” is the full term, often used in formal contexts, such as academic, professional, or official documents. It denotes a more comprehensive and detailed collection of data or facts, often requiring analysis or interpretation. The choice between “info” and “information” depends on the setting of the communication.

I shortened “My Information” to “My Info” to fit the 30-character maximum for the progressive web application manifest name and ease of use across pages. I also find the less formal “info” more appealing to the sense of conveying helpful information (err..info) in a casual manner.

Our Mission

We’re passionate about creating connections—between people, technologies, and communities. MIJUG.NET serves as a hub for sharing practical insights about modern web development, sustainable technology practices, and building stronger tech communities across southeast Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.

The Story Behind the Name

From Java Users Group to Knowledge Network

MIJUG.NET began its journey in 2002 as a platform for the Michigan Java Users Group. I created this domain while working at Compuware Corporation, supporting OptimalJ—a cutting-edge tool built on Java 5. What started as a community space for Java enthusiasts has evolved into something much more meaningful.

“My Information Just Under Glass”

The name carries both whimsy and wisdom. Like the classic Get Smart television show’s “Cone of Silence,” where Maxwell Smart and the Chief attempt secure communication under glass domes—only to discover they can’t hear each other—our digital age presents similar ironies. We’re more connected than ever, yet meaningful communication requires intentional effort.

The name reflects three key principles:

  • “Under Glass”: Information shared with transparency and protection, like viewing treasured artifacts in a museum
  • “Just Under”: The thin barrier of our screens that both connects and separates us in digital communication
  • “My Information”: Personal insights and experiences, curated with care and shared with positive intent
